1. The app

Word Ladder is a free puzzle game made by MeremAI ("we," "us," "our") for iOS. In each puzzle, you turn a start word into a finish word by changing exactly one letter at a time, with every step along the way a real word. By downloading or using Word Ladder, you agree to these Terms.

2. How the app works

Word Ladder offers a new daily puzzle (the same puzzle for everyone, once per day) and unlimited random puzzles in 4-letter and 5-letter modes. If you're stuck, an optional "Computer Assist" feature reveals the next best word after you watch a short video ad. Puzzles are timed, and completed puzzles are scored with a letter grade based on how close your move count was to par.

3. Accounts and data collection

Word Ladder does not require an account. There is no sign-up, no login, and no account of any kind. Your puzzle progress, statistics, and settings are stored locally on your device. When you complete the daily puzzle, your completion time, a random player ID, and your display name are sent to our leaderboard service (see Section 4); beyond that, we do not collect or receive your data. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what is sent and how it is used.

4. Leaderboards, display names, and reports

When you finish the daily puzzle, Word Ladder submits your completion time to our leaderboard service so you can see how you rank against other players that day. After your first daily puzzle you can choose a display name, or keep an automatic one. Your display name and time are visible to other players.

Display names. You agree that your display name will not: be offensive, hateful, sexual, or harassing; impersonate another person, MeremAI, or the app; include personal information such as your real name, phone number, or email address; or advertise or promote anything. We check names automatically and may reject, reset, or remove any name at any time, with or without notice, including names that pass the automatic check.

Reporting. You can report a display name you find objectionable from the leaderboard. We review reports and act on them promptly. When several different players report the same name, the app's service automatically resets it to a default name and locks it from further changes. To ask us to remove a name or any of your leaderboard data, use the contact form.

Fair play. The leaderboard is meant to reflect real play. You agree not to modify the app, send fake scores, or otherwise tamper with the leaderboard. We may remove scores that appear to be invalid and may block players who do so.

Sharing. The in-app "share" feature hands your result and a link to Word Ladder to your device's native share sheet. What you choose to share, and with whom, is entirely up to you and governed by the app or service you share to, not by us.

5. Ads

Word Ladder is free and supported by advertising. Ads appear only when you choose to watch one, for example to unlock a Computer Assist hint. Ads are provided by third parties, including Google AdMob, and we do not control or endorse their content. Watching an ad is always optional, and we cannot guarantee that an ad will be available every time you ask. You agree not to use bots, scripts, or other means to generate or interact with ads artificially, and we may remove hints or block players who do. How ad data is handled is described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Intellectual property

The game design, puzzle logic, word lists, and the Word Ladder name are owned by MeremAI and licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use within the app only.

7. Content and audience

Word Ladder is built for a general audience using an ordinary dictionary word list. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not ask for personal information from anyone, regardless of age. Display names are chosen by players and visible to others, so please do not enter personal information in one. Ads are not directed at children under 13.

8. No warranty; limitation of liability

Word Ladder is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, MeremAI is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app. Because the app is free, our total liability for any claim will not exceed $10. We are not responsible for the content of third-party ads or the websites and apps they lead to.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and, where required, surfaced in the app itself.
